Pootcorners, located near Palmerston, Ontario and owned by Peter & Suelaine Poot, purchased our first alpacas in 2004. We have both single and double registered huacayas and suris. The initial herd of 3 females has grown to 28 as we continually breed for improvement in the fibre of our stock. We strive to breed in consistency of staple length, micron, and crimp, while maximizing the yield from each individual alpaca.
Early in our alpaca research years, we associated ourselves with Alpaca Ontario and learned much from the breeders involved there. This has lead to greater involvement with our provincial and national organizations including volunteering in the organizing and administrative tasks at the annuals shows they host. Locally, we participate in many fairs, parades, agricultural awareness days and visits to camps, class rooms and nursing homes. The lovely friendly faces of the alpacas give us many opportunities to educate others about their magnificent fibre.
Our children have been a part of the operation right from the beginning, helping with the daily chores and participating in shows and other public events. Some of them have even purchased their own stock and now work toward the improvement of their own growing herds.
Come visit us and see for yourselves, the wonderful world of alpacas.
